The Bad Boy loved around the world

For a moment, or a second, the pinched expressions of the cynical, world-weary, throat-cutting, miserable bastards we’ve all had to become disappears when we’re confronted with something as simple as a plate of food.
— Anthony Bourdain, Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly.

Last night I forgot to set my phone to silent and the flurry from breaking news reports of Anthony Bourdain’s sudden death woke me up.

Of all the people - he wasn’t one of the people who was sposed to go this way - it has been a shock and shocking.

Today my social media streams are full of people who knew him well and briefly, those who read and watched him, people posting links to suicide hotlines and mental health resources and prompts to ask your strong friends if they're okay once in a while, too.

For years he’s been one of my main celebrity crushes. Strong and tall, confident and rude, kind and travelled, a wonderful writer and a gorgeous man.
