Baking Makes Things Better

Melissa and Courtenay of bakingmakesthingsbetter.com

I had such a lovely day at the Baking Makes Things Better cooking class in Alfriston, Auckland. It was a really hands-on class too, with three people per kitchen station, everybody got the chance to mix and bake their way to tins full of tasty treats to take home.

Judging by the faces as people left at the end of the day, there were some very proud bakers - especially those who had never piped icing before - under Courtenay's expert guidence, they sported fantastic green butter icing, star-topped cupcakes.

Glorious!

Lots of delicious Christmas baking

Empathy, schmempathy?

One of the workshops I'm going to be attending at Webstock '13 is Whitney Hess's Getting to know you: an empathy workshop. I've been increasingly worried about how I'll go in this workshop because what if I discover, or learn, to have empahty towards the over-promoted morons who seem to be scattered across the landscape of my (so called) career to such a degree that I put up with their disorganised, unskilled, worthless excuse for leadership for the rest of my life?

I think that paragraph might just prove why I need this workshop.

If, however, the workshop is more like the latest RSA sketch-talk - where we our ability to empathise and use it to create really powerful change - well then maybe we're onto something.
