The Big Draw: Chancery Square

We met early this month. Usually we get together on the last Saturday of each month. This month we had a couple of Sydney Urban Sketchers in town so decided to show them what a rainy Saturday in Auckland was like.

Executive Summary: it was wet and cold.

My view into Chancery Restaurant which made some of the diners nervous to see me staring, photographing and sketching down at them.

The Big Draw Massive thrive in all sorts of conditions. We found a dry, if chilly, corner of Chancery Square and all got stuck in.

Finding a table to work at is a real treat on The Big Draw.

I worked fast today. First with ink and then with watercolour. I don't usually draw people into my work firstly because I'm concentrating so hard on the scene and secondly because moving people are hard to draw! But looking down onto diners was an intriguing viewpoint so I gave it a go.

People move! it's infuriating. And it's hard to see detail in black clothing too. I enjoyed the challenge though and will try to add people into my work more often. Good news too, we're meeting again next Saturday so I'll have another chance.
